I had imagined Kyoto would be as noisy and crowded as London at rush hour, but I could not have been more wrong. On my first morning, I stepped out of the guesthouse at six o'clock and found the streets far quieter than I had dared to hope. The air was cold enough to make my fingers numb, yet not too bitter to stop me walking for hours. By the third day, I realised I was travelling more slowly than most tourists, and that was precisely the point. Instead of rushing from temple to temple, I sat in a garden and watched the light change on the moss. A retired teacher, who turned out to be one of the most patient people I have ever met, explained that Kyoto's beauty is not as obvious as the neon of Shibuya; it asks you to wait. What surprised me most was how little I had known about Japan before I arrived. The culture shock was not so much uncomfortable as humbling. By day seven, I was almost as fluent in the local phrases as a child, which is to say not very fluent at all, but far more confident than I had been. I left convinced that the best journeys are not the ones that take you further than you expected, but the ones that change how you see what is right in front of you.

课文精讲 · B2 课文的三层读法

论B2 阅读不能只"读懂"，要"读出结构"

第一层：抓态度。开头 "I could not have been more wrong" 一句就把全文反转——这是 B2 阅读最爱考的"作者态度题"，答案往往在第一段最后一句。

第二层：抓逻辑连接。but / yet / instead of / precisely / What surprised me most —— 这些信号词告诉你哪里是转折、哪里是递进、哪里是举例。Reading Part 5/6 就考你这个。

第三层：抓语法钩子。as...as / too...to / enough to / 最高级——这些就是本单元第 3 章的主角，也是 Part 4 改写题的出题点。读到一个画一个。

考试怎么考：FCE Reading Part 6 是"互文阅读"，四篇短文匹配陈述。B2 阅读量大、时间紧（75 分钟 7 部分），平时读课文就要限时，一篇 8 分钟内读完并说出作者态度。

① amazed vs amazing：人用 amazed（I was amazed），事物用 amazing（The view was amazing）。Part 3 词形转换最爱考 -ed/-ing 分词。

② travel 不可数：说"旅行"这件事用 travel（不可数）；一次具体旅程用 trip / journey。Travel broadens the mind. 这里 travel 不加 a。

③ touristy 是贬义：touristy = 游客扎堆的、商业化的（a bit touristy）；touristic 中性偏正式。写作里用 touristy 表达"太游客化"很地道。

④ trip / travel / journey / voyage 分得清：trip 短途往返；travel 泛指；journey 长途旅程；voyage 航海/航天。B2 写作要会选。

⑤ off the beaten track 不拆：固定搭配 = 冷门小众地区，不要写成 off the beaten path（美式可，但剑桥英式更认 track）。

语法延展 · as...as / too / enough 与最高级纵深

KET/PET 你已经学过比较级 -er than；到 B2，考点升级为"同级比较 as...as 的否定与修饰""too...to / enough to 的互换""最高级的纵深表达"。这三个点直接对应 Reading & Use of English Part 4 的 key word transformations——这是整张卷子最拉分的部分。

Part 4 改写题最爱考的陷阱

① as...as 改写："Kyoto is quieter than London." = "London is not as quiet as Kyoto." 主语一换，逻辑必反。

② too...to 与 enough to 互换："He is too young to travel alone." = "He is not old enough to travel alone." 形容词要取反（young → old）。

③ one of the 后面必须复数：one of the most beautiful cities（city 复数），这是 Writing 常见扣分点。

④ by far 的位置：by far the best（不能说 the by far best）。

⑤ 倍数表达：twice as much as（不能用 than）；three times more than 也对，但剑桥更推 twice as...as。

Candidate B: Good idea. The beach holiday looks relaxing, but teenagers might find it too boring to last a whole week.
Candidate A: I see what you mean. What about the city break? It's probably as exciting as the adventure trip, but not as expensive as the safari.
Candidate B: That's a fair point. Having said that, the adventure holiday is by far the most memorable — teenagers love that sort of thing.
Candidate A: True. So on the whole, shall we go with the adventure trip? It isn't too risky to recommend, and it's cheap enough to fit most budgets.
