论为什么这段课文是「高级虚拟教材」
FCE 写法：If it had not been for the algorithm, I would never have discovered it. If companies were transparent, we would decide wisely.
C2 写法（倒装 + 混合）：Had it not been for the algorithm, I would never have discovered it. Were companies to be fully transparent, consumers might decide wisely. Had we known a decade ago how deeply our data would be mined, society might have demanded safeguards.
升级点 1 — 省略 if 倒装：Had it not been for... = If it had not been for...（要不是…）
升级点 2 — Were + to：Were companies to be transparent = If companies were to be...（对未来的假设）
升级点 3 — 混合条件：Had we known (过去) ..., we would have demanded（过去结果）——时间错位也是 C2 考点。

① surveillance vs monitoring：surveillance = 秘密监控（贬义）；monitoring = 常规监测（中性）。别混用。
② data 不可数：大量数据用 a large amount of data，不用 many datas。
③ raise red flags：「亮起红灯、引起警惕」，不是「升红旗」。
④ paternalistic = 家长式的（贬义），不是 patriotic 爱国的。

① 倒装后不要再加 if：❌ If had I known. → ✅ Had I known.
② 混合条件时间要对应：If I had left earlier（过去）, I would be there by now（现在）——两句时间不同。
③ Should you need = 万一你需要：是条件，不是「你应该需要」。
考试怎么考：Part 4：If it hadn't been for your help, I'd have failed. → Had it not been for your help, I'd have failed.
